Dramaturgien postmigrantischer Performance : Citizenship in kultureller Bildung und künstlerischer Forschung

Abstract

Die vorliegende Dissertation untersucht den inneren Zusammenhang von Performance und Citizenship in der postmigrantischen Gesellschaft in seiner Bedeutung für Handlungsfelder und Praktiken der künstlerischen Arbeit mit Kindern, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen. Im Zentrum steht die Frage, wie Mädchen und Frauen als Bürgerinnen postmigrantischer Gesellschaft handeln und welche Chancen und Grenzen ihnen künstlerische Performancepraxis als Arbeit an postmigrantischer Citizenship in kultureller Bildung und künstlerischer Forschung bietet. Der Zusammenhang von Performance und Citizenship wird zunächst auf zwei Ebenen diskursanalytisch verankert und durch zwei künstlerische Forschungsprojekte untersucht: Auf der Ebene gesellschaftlicher Realität wird angesichts drängender Fragen gesellschaftlichen Zusammenlebens die Brüchigkeit von an nationalstaatliche Rahmungen gekoppelten Citizenship-Konzepten aufgezeigt. Artikulationen von Bürger*innen und Nicht-Bürger*innen werden als Performance von postmigrantischer Citizenship in den Blick genommen und in ihrem Dilemma untersucht, einerseits ermächtigendes Handeln sein zu wollen und dabei zugleich einen performativen Imperativ von Gesellschaft zu erfüllen. Auf der Ebene der künstlerischen Praxis wird Performance als (Kunst)handeln von Bürger*innen gefasst, das in partizipativen Ansätzen und insbesondere in der kulturellen Bildung zum Versprechen auf die Bildung und Ermächtigung von freien, mündigen Bürger*innen wird. Anhand der Entwicklungslinie von Kunst und Theater werden ein damit einhergehender Funktionswechsel für die Dramaturgie und ihre Bedeutung für partizipative Performancepraxis nachgezeichnet. Der Zusammenhang von Performance und postmigrantischer Citizenship wird in zwei künstlerisch-praktischen Forschungsteilen untersucht, in denen Mädchen und Frauen ihre Handlungsmöglichkeiten als Bürger*innen erproben. Als zentrale Stellschraube für die Bearbeitung von Fragen postmigrantischer Citizenship mit Performance wird eine relationale Dramaturgie herausgearbeitet, die zugleich als Analysefolie für die (eigene) künstlerische Praxis dient. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, wie sehr künstlerische Performance als Arbeit an Citizenship innerhalb kultureller Bildung aktuell von einem performativen Imperativ eingeholt wird und zugleich gesellschaftliche Ausschlüsse und Machtverhältnisse reproduziert. Anhand dieser Befunde werden Vorschläge dafür erarbeitet, beides durch dramaturgische Setzungen zum Gegenstand künstlerischer Untersuchung zu machen – und in transgenerationellen Forscher*innenkonstellationen alternative gesellschaftliche Entwürfe zu entwickeln und durchzuspielen. Die vorliegende schriftliche Arbeit ist der chronologisch letzte und zugleich umfassendste Teil der künstlerisch-wissenschaftlichen Forschung.

This dissertation analyses the internal connection of performance and citizenship in post-migrant society with regards to their significance for practices and fields of action in artistic work with children, teenagers and adults. The main research question is how girls and women act in post-migrant society and which opportunities and limits for working on their post-migrant citizenship are thus offered to them by performance practices in cultural education and artistic research. The connection between performance and citizenship is grounded in current debates and discourses and then investigated within two artistic research projects at two levels: Firstly, by considering urgent questions of everyday cohabitation in urban settings, a problematic fragility of concepts of citizenship bound to the nation state is highlighted. Rather, articulations of citizens and non-citizens already constitute a performance of post-migrant citizenship on an everyday level. These enactments of citizenship are investigated in their constitutive dilemma between empowerment and compliance with a societal imperative to perform as valuable citizens. On the level of art practice, performance is understood as the artistic action of citizens and non-citizens. In the development of performances within artistic and educational contexts, dramaturgy is thus changing its role and function and gaining importance for participatory performance practices in general. The connection of performance and post-migrant citizenship has been investigated within the frame of two artistic research projects in which girls and women explore their opportunities to act as citizens. A relational dramaturgy is mapped as the key factor for working on questions of post-migrant citizenship with performance. In the following it is thus also used as a pattern for the analysis of (the own and other) artistic practices from the field of contemporary performance work with children. It then becomes clear that artistic performances that work on citizenship are often restricted by a societal imperative to perform while reproducing patterns of social exclusion and existing relations of power. Based on these results, a number of proposals are formulated that envision dramaturgical settings for artistic investigations in which trans-generational constellations of researchers can develop and rehearse alternative social drafts. The present dissertation is the last and concurrently the most comprehensive part of this research.
